Technology changes are one of the sources and often the solution for the skills gap companies are increasingly experiencing.
On the bright side, these technologies obsolete the dependancy to hire for skills which can be automated and create a surplus of capacity which can be redeployed.
A down side is that the demand of skilled and qualified workers for the new roles AI & Automation enables and the supply from the labor market or up-skilling programs often mismatches.
And this cannot be remediated through hiring only.
The stiff competition for skilled professionals able to work with AI, Data, ServiceNow, RPA, Strategic Procurement, UX is likely to persist.
It takes a dedicated effort by companies offering skills training opportunities and a workforce open to life-long learning.
